The Mississippi State Department of Health announced Friday the state reached a record no one wanted.

Not only did Friday’s report show the number of cases in the state was a one-day reporting record, but the overall number of cases in Mississippi surpassed 9,000.

In its latest announcement, the state reported 404 new cases of the COVID-19 virus in the state; a one-day record. Four of those new cases were in Warren County.

Overall, the number of confirmed cases in Mississippi of the COVID-19 virus since the pandemic began reached 9,090. The number of virus-related deaths in Mississippi now stands at 409, an increase of 13 since Thursday.

The number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic in Warren County, with the four new cases reported Friday, now stands at 94. The number of virus-related deaths in Warren County remains at two.

In Claiborne County, the number of confirmed cases increased to 37 Friday, while the number in Sharkey County remained steady at five. Issaquena remains the only county in the state to not yet report a positive case.

As of Monday, the state reported that 4,421 of the total cases reported should be now be considered “presumed recovered.”
