Virus-related death total in Warren County grows overnight

The number of virus-related deaths in Warren County now stands at four, the Mississippi State Department of Health confirmed Friday.
This marks the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic that virus-related deaths had been reported in the county in back-to-back days.
In the same report Friday, the state reported the number of confirmed cases in Warren County increased to 129, with 33 of those now being reported in long-term care facilities. Also, the state is reporting that two of the deaths reported in the county have come from long-term care facilities.
Of the four deaths, three have been residents of the city, while the fourth was a county resident.
Overall, the state reported 318 new statewide cases Friday, bringing the total number of cases confirmed during the pandemic to 10,801. The number of virus-related deaths in the state, with 13 new deaths reported Friday, has grown to 493.
The number of confirmed cases in Claiborne County remained at 48 overnight, after seven new cases had been reported on Thursday. The number of cases in Yazoo County stands at 180. Sharkey County continues to report five confirmed cases, while Issaquena remains the only county in the state to not yet report a case.
Statewide, 231 deaths — nearly half of the state’s total — and 1,416 cases have been reported in long-term care facilities.
