Warren County announced two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Thursday, but the number of those recovering from the virus also appears to be climbing.
Using information provided by the Mississippi State Department of Health, the number of cases confirmed in Warren County during the pandemic is now 138, but the number of active cases is estimated to be 43.
Statewide, the number of confirmed cases thus far surpassed 12,000 as 255 new cases were reported. The overall number during the pandemic for Mississippi now stands at 12,222 with 580 virus-related deaths.
In Claiborne County, the number of overall confirmed cases grew to 51, with one virus-related death. Sharkey County now reports seven cases, while Yazoo County is reporting 194 cases. Issaquena County remains the only county within the state to not yet report a positive case.
In Warren County, the number of virus-related deaths remained at five Thursday, as did the number of confirmed cases connected to long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes (34). Sadly, three of the county’s five deaths have been tied to long-term care facilities.
The numbers within the county also appear to have leveled off since a spike in the numbers was reported on May 10. Since that day, the county has seen an increase of just under two cases per day (1.9) and had three days within that period of no new cases.
