Not only did Warren County report more COVID-19 cases Friday than it had in nearly two weeks, it also reported another virus-related death, bringing the pandemic level of deaths in the county to six.
The death, which was a 74-year-old man, is the second virus-related death reported this week and is the fourth death connected to one of the county’s long-term care facilities.
Overall, Warren County has now reported 144 confirmed cases during the pandemic. But, in using guidelines from the Mississippi State Department of Health, 44 of those cases should be considered active.
Friday, the state reported 402 new COVID-19 cases, the second time during the pandemic where the state has reported more than 400 cases in one day. But, state officials have said the trend is more important than a one-day reporting, adding some private labs at times report all of their positive cases at the end of the week, rather than providing daily updates.
The pandemic total of cases in Mississippi, with the new cases Friday, stands at 12,624.
The state also reported 16 additional virus-related deaths. In all, the state has reported now 596 deaths.
The number of confirmed cases in Claiborne County jumped to 58 overnight, an increase of seven since Thursday.
Sharkey County remained at seven cases, while Yazoo County reported four additional cases, bringing their pandemic total to 198.
