Monday, the Mississippi State Department of Health announced 10 new deaths related to the COVID-19 virus. One of those 10 deaths was from Warren County.

With the report Monday, the number of virus-related deaths in Warren County now stands at seven, with five of those deaths connected to long-term care facilities within the county. As with previous reporting, the state has declined to release what long-term care facilities deaths are connected to, nor have they released the number of cases of the virus that have been reported by individual facilities.

As of Monday, Warren County now has 154 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus since the start of the pandemic. That is an increase of four since Sunday.

Statewide, the number of cases increased 206 to 13,458. The 10 deaths reported Monday bring the total of virus-related deaths during the pandemic to 635.

If there is a glimmer of hope in Monday’s report, the number of active cases in Warren County has declined. Using guidelines from the state on calculating the number of cases that should be considered “presumed recovered,” the number of active cases in Warren County is estimated to be at 30.

That drop in active cases is mostly attributed to the removal of the May 10 spike in cases, when Warren County set a one-day record of new cases with 19. Since then, Warren County has seen an average of 2.4 new cases reported each day.
