While the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to creep up in Warren County, reaching 173 as of Monday, the number of cases in Claiborne County has nearly doubled in recent days.
In Monday’s report by the Mississippi State Department of Health, the number of confirmed cases in Claiborne County increased to 110, nearly double from the same period last week.
In a press conference Monday, state health officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said while many of the outbreaks in the state have been by community-spread, the spike in cases in Claiborne County is connected to one particular outbreak. Dobbs did not give any additional details on the source of the outbreak.
Early in the pandemic, the region dealt with an outbreak at Entergy’s Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. In that situation, the confirmed cases within the county did not show a huge spike as many of those who tested positive lived in other counties or other states.
