OXFORD — Lane Kiffin will make his debut as Ole Miss’ football head coach a day later than originally planned.
The Rebels’ 2020 season opener against Baylor has been moved to Sunday, Sept. 6, the school announced Monday. The game, which will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston, was originally scheduled for Sept. 5. It will be part of ESPN’s Labor Day weekend opening schedule.
Kickoff time and network designation for the game will be announced at a later date.
The fifth installment of the annual Sunday holiday weekend game will be headlined by a pair of new head coaches with Kiffin against Baylor’s Dave Aranda.
Kiffin was hired away from Florida Atlantic during the offseason, while Aranda was the defensive coordinator for LSU’s 2019 national championship team.
This will mark the second time in the last three years the Rebels have opened the season in the Texas Kickoff. Ole Miss defeated Texas Tech 47-27 in the 2018 edition.
It will be Baylor’s first appearance in the game, although the Bears have played in NRG Stadium in the Texas Bowl twice, including a 45-38 win over Vanderbilt in 2018.
Ole Miss and Baylor will face off for only the second time in program history. Baylor knocked off Ole Miss 20-10 in the 1975 season opener in Waco.
