Additional cases reported in Warren County; another death in Claiborne County

The Mississippi State Department of Health on Tuesday announced four new COVID-19 cases in Warren County, pushing the total number of cases reported during the pandemic to 262.

The new cases come just a day after the county hit a high for estimated active cases, but using guidelines from state health officials, which include taking the total case number and subtracting deaths and the number of total cases reported 14 days ago, the number of active cases has actually dropped today to 69.

Overall, the state reported 353 new cases and an additional 20 virus-related deaths, one of which was in Claiborne County.

The death reported Tuesday is Claiborne County’s ninth connected to COVID-19.

With the additional cases, the state has now reported 20,152 confirmed cases since the first case was reported on March 11. The state has also now reported 915 virus-related deaths.

The number of estimated active COVID-19 cases in Warren County reached another high-water mark Monday with the announcement of six new cases by the Mississippi State Department of Health.

State health officials have also scheduled a one-day test site for Warren County for Thursday, from noon until 4 p.m., at Pemberton Square Mall, 3505 Pemberton Square Blvd.

Mississippians who want to be tested must first complete a free screening from a UMMC clinician through an online questionnaire . Or, they can call the UMMC Center for Telehealth at 601-496-7200 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Anyone determined to need testing will be given an appointment date and time at the testing site most convenient.

In addition to the death reported Tuesday in Claiborne County, the county saw its total cases move to 142 overall. In Sharkey County, the number of confirmed cases remained at eight, with only one of those believed to be active.

A total of 350 cases have now been reported in Yazoo County, while Issaquena continues to be the only county in the state to not yet report a positive case.

As of Monday, Madison Parish had reported 286 confirmed cases.
