A report by the Mississippi State Department of Health Monday ended a five-day period where the state was unable to provide county-by-county figures of new COVID-19 cases.

When the report came out, Warren County had seen the number of cases spike to 331 during the pandemic, an increase of 51 from the previous reporting. Tuesday, the numbers got even worse as an additional 16 cases were reported.

In all, the county has now reported 347 confirmed cases since March 29, the day the first confirmed case was reported in Warren County. Also, the numbers now bring the estimated number of cases that should be considered “active cases” to 113, the highest level so far during the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the county has seen an average of 12.14 new cases reported each day, far outpacing any similar 7-day period during the pandemic. Also, the 16 new cases reported Tuesday is the third-highest one-day total during the outbreak. The highest one-day total came on May 10 when there were 19 new cases reported.

State health officials reported 611 new cases statewide Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases reported in the state during the pandemic to 22,898. The state also reported the number of virus-related deaths in the state moved to 989 during the outbreak, an increase of 11 over Monday’s report.

Sharkey County continues to see a spike in its cases, as it reported 16 overall cases Tuesday. The county had remained in the single-digit of confirmed cases for most of the pandemic before the numbers jumped Monday and again Tuesday.

Yazoo County now reports 407 cases with six virus-related deaths, while Issaquena County remains the only county to not yet report a positive case.

Claiborne County Tuesday reported 172 overall cases with nine virus-related deaths. Also in Tuesday’s report, Warren County remained with 14 virus-related deaths. The last death reported in Warren County when two deaths were reported on June 17.
