In Warren County, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has continued its steady climb, as another 18 cases were confirmed Wednesday morning by state health officials.

The 18 cases Wednesday marks the eighth time in the past 10 days with double-digit new cases, and ties for the second-highest one-day total of the pandemic. The county also saw 18 cases reported on June 17.

The highest one-day total was 19 reported on May 10.

Since Warren County reported its first case on March 29, the county has now reported 443 cases and 17 virus-related deaths.

Also Wednesday, the state reported 653 new cases and nine additional deaths statewide. The new numbers push the total cases reported during the pandemic to 27,900, with 1,082 deaths.

The state also reported the 579 people hospitalized with confirmed infection is the highest thus far. The number of patients in intensive care units (160), and those patients on ventilators (85), were slightly lower than Tuesday’s report.

In neighboring counties, the number of COVID-19 cases has also inched higher.

Yazoo County reported 473 cases Wednesday, with six virus-related deaths, while Issaquena has now reported seven cases and one death. Claiborne County now reports 236 cases and 10 deaths, with Sharkey County reporting 24 confirmed cases.

In Madison Parish, Louisiana health officials announced the parish now has 356 confirmed cases.

As for Warren County, the 18 cases reported Wednesday pushed the seven-day average to 12 cases per day. The number of estimated active cases remained at 146, which continues to be the highest thus far during the pandemic.
