Warren County matched a one-day high in new COVID-19 cases Thursday as the state reported 33 new cases in the county. That is the most since 33 were reported on July 3.

Over the past two weeks, Warren County has reported 184 new cases, an average of just over 13 per day.

Since the first case was reported in Warren County on March 29, a total of 649 have been confirmed. There have been 22 virus-related deaths.

In its reporting Thursday, the Mississippi State Department of Health announced 1,230 new cases across the state, with 18 new deaths. Overall, the state has now reported 39,797 cases and 1,308 deaths. The state’s first case was reported on March 11.

Thursday’s report also showed the state’s health care infrastructure is being severely pressured as there are now 1,177 people hospitalized who have confirmed cases or are awaiting tests to come back. That is the highest number so far during the pandemic.

The number of hospitalized patients in intensive care units reached a new pandemic high for the state, as 247 patients are now in ICU rooms. The number of patients on ventilators dipped slightly in the latest report to 125, but remained near record levels.

Yazoo County Thursday reported 587 cases with seven virus-related deaths, while Claiborne County now reports 327 cases and 12 deaths. Issaquena County reported 11 overall cases and one virus-related death.

Sharkey County reported 56 cases and is one of only two counties in the state to not yet report a virus-related death. The other is Benton County.
