The Warren County Board of Supervisors moved one step closer Monday to completing a project authorized by the previous board.

Supervisors approved a contract with Stantec Engineering to provide design phase engineering for a project that will address signage and striping for an estimated 53 miles of county roads.

The contract will next receive approval from the Mississippi Department of Transportation before moving forward.

The project, which is called a Circuit Rider project, will include work on portions of Halls Ferry, Gibson, Fisher Ferry, Grange Hall, Culkin, Freetown, Tiffentown, Jeff Davis and Mount Alban roads along with a portion of Old MS 27.

Although no timetable for the project was provided, the cost of the project is estimated to be $343,000.

In other business:

• Approved the county to fly the National League of Families-POW/MIA flag on county properties.

• Supervisors approved the reappointment of Chuck Tate, Scott Smith, Earl Wallace and Lonnie Wooley to the First District Commission and the appointment of John Rice Pettway and Jerry Briggs to the commission.

• Approved the request by James Hammack to subdivide 7.6 acres along Burt House Road into three lots.

• Approved the lease agreement with Bovina Fire Department and Ceres Industrial Park for the purpose of a new fire station. The measure was previously approved by the former board of supervisors but was pulled back after the election to allow the current board to discuss the measure.
