For the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic, Warren County has reported at least one virus-related death for the fourth consecutive day. Over the past four days, six deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 31.

Wednesday, state health officials announced 51 new virus-related deaths, one of which was in Warren County.

The report also showed 19 new cases in Warren County, bringing the total number reported since March 29 to 995. Over the past 14 days, the period by which state health officials monitor to possibly declare hot spots, the county has seen 233 new cases, which is above the threshold. But the other measurement used, cases per 100,000 residents, the county remains below the 500 cases per 100,000 residents level at 478.

Tuesday, Gov. Tate Reeves enacted a statewide mask mandate and ordered the delay of students attending classes in-person for eight Mississippi counties. Warren County was not among those counties. The first day of school for the Vicksburg Warren School District remains Friday.

Overall, the state reported 1,245 new cases, bringing the total number of cases reported in the state since March 11 to 63,444. The number of deaths reached 1,804 with Wednesday’s report.
