COVID-19 update: August continues as deadliest month thus far for Warren County

With another death reported Friday, August continues to be the deadliest month thus far for Warren County in the months-long COVID-19 pandemic.
The one death reported Friday by state health officials is the 37th virus-related death overall for Warren County and the 12th so far in August. One or more deaths attributed to the virus have been reported on nine of 14 days so far in August.
By comparison, Warren County reported eight deaths in July, seven each in May and June, and just four in April. The first death reported in Warren County during the pandemic was on April 6.
In its report Friday, the Mississippi State Department of Health announced 944 new COVID-19 cases statewide and 32 deaths. Since the first case was reported in Mississippi on March 11, the state has had a total of 70,930 cases and 2,043 deaths.
As for Warren County, 15 new cases were reported Friday, bringing the total to 1,166 thus far during the pandemic. The first case reported in Warren County was on March 29.
Yazoo County on Friday reported an additional virus-related death, bringing its totals to 882 cases and 14 deaths. Claiborne County reported 411 cases and 14 deaths, while Sharkey County reported 214 cases and seven deaths. Issaquena County, which was the last county in the state to report a positive case, on Friday reported 27 cases and two deaths.
