The past seven days have seen a welcome decline in the number of new COVID-19 cases in Warren County.

Tuesday, the Mississippi State Department of Health announced 22 new cases in the county, but the daily average over the past week had been just above 11. The prior seven days, which ended Aug. 11, the county had an average of more than 21 new cases per day.

This decline has kept the estimated active cases in the county below 200 for the past six days, a stretch the county has not seen since mid-July. As of Tuesday, the estimated number of active cases in Warren County was 191.

Overall, Tuesday’s report pushed the number of cases reported in Warren County since March 29 to 1,204.

As for the state, the streak of lower numbers continued, as 795 new cases were reported. The number of virus-related deaths, though, were higher, as 34 were confirmed. Since the first case was reported in Mississippi on March 11, the state has now reported 73,207 cases and 2,128 deaths.

Yazoo County on Tuesday reported 800 cases with 15 deaths, while Claiborne County reported 416 cases with 15 deaths. Sharkey County now reports 220 cases and seven deaths, while Issaquena County reports 28 cases and two deaths.
