Washington Street between Clay and South streets will be one-way under a plan announced by Mayor George Flaggs Jr. Wednesday.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen is expected to vote on the proposal Thursday when it meets to approve the budget.
If approved, the northbound lane of Washington Street, from the intersection of South Street and Washington Street to the intersection of Clay and Washington, will be blocked from 7 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays to prevent vehicles from traveling north on Washington Street.
The city’s traffic department will install signs notifying people that traffic is restricted to traveling south between Clay and South streets and vehicles will not be allowed to travel north on Washington Street between Clay and South street.
