Friday morning about 5, Warren County fire coordinator Jerry Briggs and Vicksburg-Warren County 911 director Shane Garrard are leaving on a mission of mercy to Fairhope, Ala., to help Sunbelt Fire, a company that for years has served the Vicksburg Fire Department and Warren County’s volunteer firefighters.
“(The) power is out for a good way down there and for a good length of time, so we’re going to load up some fuel and supplies and whatever people want to donate and take it to them,” Briggs said. “If they don’t need it, we’ll give it to whoever we come across. The main thing is power is out and the few stores that are open have long lines.”
Briggs said Thursday he was waiting on a text from company officials to find out what they need. He said people who want to donate items can call him at 601-218-9911, Garrard at 601-529-6968, or take the items to the Lee Road Fire Station between 6 and 8 p.m. Thursday.
He said the city and the county have bought trucks and other supplies from Sunbelt, which also does the maintenance for air packs, the breathing apparatus.
“Above all, they’re a family-owned, family-operated business and they treat their customers like family. They’ve helped us out when we needed help, so we’re going to return the favor.”
