Drug arrest serves notice to Vicksburg

The wake-up call issued by the Vicksburg Police Department Wednesday morning on the home of Duane Lamar Williams was not just to serve him a search warrant, but to serve notice to all of Vicksburg that drugs in our community cannot and will not be accepted any longer.
For Vicksburg, Wednesday’s search and discovery of 20 pounds of marijuana and 2,700 ecstasy pills, along with guns and cash, is a reminder that drugs in Vicksburg are not limited to just ounces and a few pills, but are big business and a big problem.
This discovery came in the middle of a neighborhood where families are raising their children. It is scary to think of this kind of activity in an area where children — our future — are exposed to this type of crime and lifestyle.
Sadly, though, it is not scary, it is reality. There are other neighborhoods where drugs exist and in some cases enabled. That must end.
We applaud the work of our law enforcement officials and praise the tips from concerned residents that helped lead to Williams’ arrest and the end to his particular drug trade.
