Porter’s Chapel Academy’s winning ways came to an abrupt end Friday night.

Hillcrest Christian jumped on the Eagles for two early touchdowns, and then scored 25 points in the second quarter on its way to a 51-6 victory that ended PCA’s three-game winning streak.

Hillcrest had scored just 19 points in its first four games, all losses, and took a forfeit loss to Riverfield Academy last week. It then did a 180-degree turn against PCA (3-2), which had scored 105 points during its first three-game winning streak in seven years.

PCA’s only touchdown came in the fourth quarter, on a 40-yard pass from Jace Riggs to Ra’Darius Turner.

“It was one of those nights,” PCA coach Blake Purvis said. “We had some mistakes early, then had a lack of focus and things like that.”

PCA will try to regroup next Friday night, when it travels to take on Centreville Academy.

Tallulah Academy will head into a huge district game next week battered and bruised after a loss to defending MAIS Class 2A champion Manchester Academy. The Mavericks scored twice before Tallulah touched the football Friday and steadily pulled away for a lopsided win in a battle of MAIS eight-man football powerhouses.

Tallulah’s only touchdown came on a 10-yard pass from Dee Morgan to Marsh Wood in the first quarter, after it fell behind 12-0. Manchester scored off the opening kickoff, recovered an onside kick, and then scored again.

The touchdown was one of the few highlights for Tallulah. Carter Sullivan also led the team in tackles and intercepted a pass on defense.

“We didn’t play bad football. We made some mistakes here and there, but we didn’t play bad. We’d hold them and then give up a big play,” Tallulah coach Bart Wood said.

Wood said the worst part of the loss was the aftermath. The Trojans (3-1) must now turn around and play defending Class 1A champion Briarfield Academy next week, on the road, in a District 3-1A showdown. It’s a rematch of last year’s Class 1A semifinals, which Briarfield (3-0) won.

“It’s just a bad, bad stretch for us,” Wood said with a chuckle.
