**Update: MDOT crews completed removal fo the damaged sign support structure and all lanes of traffic were reopened just before midnight.**
Crews with the Mississippi Department of Transportation have begun repairs on the sign support structure at the foot of the Interstate 20 bridge.
The structure was damaged when an 18-wheeler carrying automobiles overturned and struck the structure at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The truck also struck an unoccupied work truck that was on the side of the eastbound lanes.
The driver of the 18-wheeler received minor injuries and was treated and released.
The eastbound lanes of the bridge were closed by Louisiana officials shortly after the accident, while the westbound lanes were closed around 4 p.m. to allow for repairs. MDOT officials said the repairs could take as long as six hours.
The Vicksburg Police Department, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi Highway Patrol are working in support of the repairs and have worked to divert traffic away from the area.
