MADISON PARISH, La. — Traffic along eastbound Interstate 20, just inside Louisiana, was slowed as emergency officials responded to a fatal accident Monday evening.
Shortly after 8 p.m., Louisiana State Police responded to a crash on I-20 near milepost 182 in Delta that claimed the life of a Fort Worth, Texas man.
According to State Police officials, the initial investigation revealed a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 41-year-old Nathan Ribelin of Fort Worth, Texas, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 20 when the truck rear-ended a 1999 International 18-wheeler that was stopped for traffic.
After impact, the 18-wheeler struck the rear of a 2008 Ford F-350 that was also stopped.
Traffic eastbound near the Interstate 20 bridge over the Mississippi River has routinely been slowed in recent weeks as maintenance work on the bridge has narrowed traffic down to one lane.
Ribelin, who was properly restrained, was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
State Police said the crash remains under investigation and that a toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis.
In 2020, the Louisiana State Police’s Troop F, which is based in Monroe, has investigated 38 fatal crashes resulting in 40 deaths.
