The hangar at the Southern Heritage Air Foundation will be in a holiday mode when the foundation hosts its eighth annual Pajamas, Pancakes & Planes Dec. 5 at the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport in Mound, La.

Tickets for the event go on sale at midnight Saturday and are $10 per person, which includes breakfast and craft activities and games during the program.

Because of concerns for COVID-19, Foundation Director Patty Mekus said some activities have been changed to allow for social distancing.

“Santa will be virtual; he’s going to stay at the North Pole so he doesn’t risk getting COVID before Dec. 24,” Mekus said. “He wants to get out on Christmas Eve and he doesn’t want the elves to get sick so they’re staying busy.”

Families will have a designated family time in a special room where they will visit with Santa on Zoom.

“They can talk with Santa and take pictures,” Mekus said.

The breakfast, she said, will be prepared to go and placed in bags with the families’ names on them “so they can come in and the kids participate in all the activities. Santa will greet the kids on the big screen in the hangar.”

She said some tables will be set up in the hangar for families that wish to eat breakfast there.

The event will include a raffle for door prizes. The cost to participate in the raffle is $10, with part of the proceeds going to benefit St. Jude’s Hospital. Participation in the raffle also qualifies a person to be eligible to win one of two Fisher-Price Dune Racer Extreme cars. The winner does not have to be present.

Mekus said the foundation will also have an online Christmas wish list silent auction beginning Nov. 21 featuring Christmas toys and other items. People will be able to participate in the auction through the foundation’s website and its Facebook page.

“It’s not just for the kids; we have items for adults,” she said.
