The Associated Press has projected that incumbent Bennie Thompson will rin the race for Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District over challenger Brian Flowers.
The 2nd Congressional District includes all or part of 26 counties in Mississippi.
Despite the projection, Warren County voters did not support Thompson’s re-election effort, supporting Flowers. With all of the precincts reporting, Flowers earned 8,353 votes compared to Thompson’s 7,603 votes.
Thompson joined the House of Representatives in April 1993 after winning a special election for the 2nd Congressional seat, which became vacant when Representative Mike Espy resigned. He was elected to a full term in 1994 and has been reelected 13 times.
