Two Clinton residents were in for a rude awakening Friday evening when they were robbed at gunpoint in Vicksburg.
According to Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones, the victims, a man and woman, traveled to the 100 block of McCauley Place under the impression they were purchasing a car in the neighborhood, but soon found themselves at the business end of a handgun.
Jones said the victims spoke to the suspects over the phone and were led to the area; there is no evidence that the suspects are tied to the McCauley neighborhood.
Two Black males emerged from the tree line at the address and pointed a gun at the victims, and took their money and cellphones.
The suspects then fled the area. As of 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jones said the suspects had not been located.
Correction: A previous version of this story indicated that the victims were men. Initial reports from VPD indicated that the robbery took place in the 400 block of McCauley Place.Â
