The Dredge Jadwin was spotted on the Mississippi River at Vicksburg Monday as part of ongoing efforts to keep the river flowing amid record low levels.

Turning 90 years old on Oct. 30, the Jadwin is making its way down the river. As a dustpan dredge, the Jadwin can operate with a wider berth than other vessels while working to maintain the channel and keep river traffic flowing.

The Mississippi River was -0.79 feet in Vicksburg as of 4 p.m. and according to the National Weather Service, will remain below zero through mid-November.

Forecasts show projected river levels at Vicksburg ranging from -0.9 on Tuesday, rising up to -0.1 on Nov. 1 and falling between -1.0 and -1.2 feet between Nov. 7 and Nov. 20, the latest date available.

These forecasts could change depending on rainfall.

“Our next rainmaker won’t be until early next week, but from the looks of it that might be a dry front as well,” said Lance Perrilloux, NWS meteorologist.
