As America relies less on physical currency, The Salvation Army is making it easier than ever to support its Red Kettle Campaign online.
In addition to dropping cash in the iconic red kettles outside stores, everyone can make a difference from their phones or computers at VicksburgKettle.org.
The Salvation Army’s needs are greater this year as higher inflation, combined with the end of government stimulus checks and increased mortgage rates, have pushed more working families into housing insecurity and financial hardship.
“This campaign isn’t just about raising funds; it’s about offering stability and solutions for individuals and families in need,” said Major Janna Torgerson, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army. “We face the challenge of meeting the sharp increase in requests for assistance while experiencing a drop in donations to our red kettles, primarily due to reduced foot traffic and a declining use of cash.”
The Salvation Army invites the community to donate directly online or inspire giving by starting their online fundraiser at VicksburgKettle.org.
“We’re excited about the opportunity for our community to set up their very own virtual red kettle, either as an individual or as part of a team. Spread the word on social media and invite your friends, family members, or coworkers to donate and help reach your fundraising goal.”
The Salvation Army serves individuals and families confronted with unexpected and often devastating crises through the community’s support.
The organization offers meal assistance, emergency financial assistance, youth programs, and women’s ministries.
The Salvation Army raised this year’s fundraising goal to over $47,000 to meet the anticipated increased needs this holiday season and beyond.
Donations are about more than holiday meals; they’re about helping families remain in their homes and ensuring food for neighbors in need.
“Every dollar raised in our Red Kettle Campaign stays here in our community, making a direct impact. It means a meal for someone hungry, keeping lights on for struggling families, and providing ongoing support and hope to those in crisis,” emphasized Major Torgerson.
Celebrating its 133rd year, The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign is one of the world’s oldest and largest charitable campaigns.
Each year, it raises millions nationwide, providing shelter, meals, financial aid, educational programs for children, disaster relief, and much more to America’s most vulnerable populations.
