St. Aloysius had a rowdy home crowd and a spirited effort working in its favor, but it wasn’t quite enough to push it over the top to victory.

Greenville Christian held off St. Al 61-59 in Friday’s boys’ basketball game, ending the Flashes’ brief two-game winning streak.

Korey Simms led St. Al with 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Anthony McCloud added 12 points and six rebounds, while Carter Henderson and Carson Henderson scored nine points apiece.
Carson Gleese also had eight points.

“We had a packed house last night and the environment they created was amazing. The boys definitely fed off the crowd all night and played a terrific game against a great Greenville Christian tteam,” St. Al coach Walter Hallberg said. “I just want our fans to know how appreciative I am of them, and hopefully we can create that environment for the rest of the home games this year.”

In the boys’ junior high game, Greenville Christian defeated St. Al 39-31. Walt Andrews, Keller Bradley, John Hossley and Dru Gleese all scored five points each for St. Al, while Evan Mallard and Grant Gattle scored four.

Andrews also had 11 rebounds, and Mallard had eight.

St. Al will play three games next week — Monday and Friday at home against East Rankin Academy and Adams County Christian School, respectively; and Thursday at Tallulah Academy. All varsity games start at 6 p.m.
