A Vicksburg man faces a charge of felony eluding after he led Warren County sheriff’s deputies on a chase Monday night that ended when he wrecked the pickup truck he was driving near Sherman Avenue and Standard Hill Road.
Tabares Ross, 26, is being held without bond in the Warren County Jail pending an initial appearance in Justice Court.
Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said deputies were notified Monday evening by Issaquena County authorities that a pickup was seen leaving an agricultural complex near Valley Park in Issaquena County and heading south on U.S. 61.
“It was suspicious in so much that it was coming from an agricultural barn where equipment is stored,” he said, adding Issaquena County authorities asked that the truck be stopped and checked.
The truck, which was pulling an enclosed trailer, was seen on U.S. 61 by Chief Deputy Bobby Stewart, who attempted to pull the truck over, but Ross drove off. The chase continued south on U.S. 61 and Deputy Patrick Brown and other sheriff’s units joined in the pursuit, which turned onto Sherman Avenue by Sherman Elementary School and continued until the truck ran off the road near the intersection and crashed.
Ross got out of the truck and fled on foot but was arrested about an hour later at a house on Union Avenue.
Pace said deputies are working with Issaquena authorities to determine if anything was taken from the agricultural complex.
