A fire occurred at the Cornblatt Hide and Fur Company building. • Lawrence Hennessey left to resume his studies at Notre Dame. • John L. Compton returned from a visit to New Orleans. • Sam Silver was here from Minter City visiting his mother.
90 Years Ago: 1934
Tommie Robinson defeated Dr. Guy Jarratt in the President’s Cup Tournament at the National Park Golf Club. • John Redditt and Nazzie Fay Potter were married. • Jesse F. Jones and Josephine Morrissey were married with Monsignor J.M. Pendergast officiating.
80 Years Ago: 1944
Major Nathan Lewis, with the Army Medical Corps, was here from Walla Walla, Washington. • Mrs. Allen Kelly was a patient at Mercy Hospital. • R.E. Selby, who had been ill with the flu, was reportedly improving.

The Reverend Hendricks died. • Mrs. Dora Lloyd, a Bolton resident, died. • Ensign Ben T. Fitz-Hugh arrived from Japan on a 30-day emergency leave.

Charles B. Smithhart died. • William Parker died. • Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Willis announced the birth of a son, Alvin Edward.• Eric Biedenharn was elected president of the American Angus Association.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. McNight III announced the birth of a daughter, Rebecca Lane. • Simmons Torey, of Vicksburg, opened an office for the general practice of law. • Col. J.V. Dawsey Jr. pinned master sergeant stripes on John F. Alpin. • Eleven-year-old Roy Landers killed a 12-point buck.

County Supervisors said the former Dalrymple Ford Building at 1220 Clay St. would be suited for additional courtroom space. • Teachers and staff of the Vicksburg Warren School District endorsed a return to community schools.

Ergon bought out Bunge’s interest in the ethanol plant. • City officials wanted the county’s legislative delegation to make the state return The Vicksburg Auditorium to the city.
