MLK Day events scheduled for Monday

Monday will bring several celebrations in Vicksburg scheduled to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Beginning at 8 a.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast will be held. According to information provided by visitvicksburg.com, the cost will be $20 per person. Proceeds support the Educational Foundation by giving scholarships to high school students at the end of the school year. This event is sponsored by the Omicron Rho Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. This year’s featured Speaker will be U.S. Congressman Bennie Thompson, U.S. House of Representatives. Closing out the day’s celebrations will be the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration at Vicksburg City Auditorium at 6 p.m.. According to visitvicksburg.com, The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Memorial Committee will host the 37th Annual community-wide memorial and birthday celebration in honor of the work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This 2024 event will mark the 95th birthday of Dr. King. Additionally, the Vicksburg National Military Park will host a free day in honor of Dr. King’s legacy, with fees for applicable park recreation waived for the day.
