Mrs. D.E. Wright underwent surgery. • Florence Oakes was ill. • Mrs. W.J. Bryan and son, of Greenville, were in Vicksburg visiting relatives.

Albert Martin earned the Silver Beaver Boy Scout Award. • Congressman Russell Ellzey said two more CCC camps will be established in Vicksburg. • Charles Franck was named manager of the Piggly Wiggly team in the City League. • Marguerite Koestler was home after spending seven months in Europe.
80 Years Ago: 1944
Lucius Dabney III was inducted into the U.S. Army. • Robert C. Finch died. • Homer W. Loftin, who had been doing U.S. Government work in Brazil, returned to Vicksburg. • Maj. W.W. Broome returned to Grenada Air Base after visiting his family in Vicksburg. • Staff Sgt. Charles Young, who was stationed in Trinidad, was home on furlough.

N.M. Kahn passed away. • Dr. and Mrs. Cecil Knox were visiting on the Gulf Coast. • Mrs. Fred Young was home following surgery at the Lutheran Hospital. • R.R. Jemerson, a retired farmer, died.
