Vicksburg High’s baseball team piled up the runs last week, and Braylon Green piled up the votes in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.
Green, a senior shortstop for the Gators, received 229 of the 463 votes cast in an online poll of The Post’s readers.
Warren Central track athlete Mere’ Smith finished second, with 160 votes. St. Aloysius tennis player Hendrix Eldridge was third and Porter’s Chapel Academy track athlete Marley Bufkin fourth.
Green is the third VHS athlete in a row to win the Athlete of the Week award, after basketball player Kameryn Bailey and softball player Jordan Grace.
Green led Vicksburg’s baseball team to two wins in three games last week. He batted .455 (5-for-11) with two triples, one double, six RBIs and five runs scored as the Gators beat Yazoo City 31-12 and Terry 11-6.
Congratulations to Braylon and the other nominees, and thank you to our readers for voting.
