A long day for St. Aloysius got even longer Tuesday night.
St. Al’s baseball game with Cathedral was halted in the top of the seventh inning when a line of severe thunderstorms slammed into Vicksburg. The game was then suspended, and will resume Thursday in Natchez.
The suspension turned a scheduled doubleheader into a tripleheader. The teams will finish Tuesday’s game at 4 p.m., and then play the other two games afterward.
Tuesday’s game was supposed to start at 6:30 p.m., but was moved to 4 to try and beat the bad weather that was forecast to move in. Umpires arrived late, however, delaying the start nearly an hour and ultimately bringing an early end to the game when a severe thunderstorm moved into Vicksburg around 7:15 p.m.
Cathedral had just taken a 4-3 lead on a squeeze bunt by Tripp Wimberley before the game was suspended. The Green Wave will have a runner on second base with one out, and a fresh count on batter Walker Probst when play resumes Friday.
St. Al scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the score at 3, after Cathedral had scored twice in the top of the inning to take the lead. Clark Hobson scored on a passed ball, and Sadler Lambiotte on a wild pitch, during the Flashes’ rally.
Pierson Smith also hit an RBI double for St. Al in the second inning.
