PCA wins six events at District 4-3A junior high track meet

A trifecta of first-place finishes helped Porter’s Chapel Academy to an impressive day at the MAIS District 4-3A junior high track meet on Tuesday.
Ansley Conway won two events and finished second in three others, and Mia Abdo won the triple jump to lead the Lady Eagles to a second-place finish in the girls’ team standings.
PCA finished with 47 points. Prairie View Academy was in first place with 67 points, Franklin Academy came in third with 39, and River Oaks was fourth with 15.
Conway’s two wins came in the 400 meters and long jump. She clocked a time of 1 minute, 18.29 seconds in the 400 meters, and leaped 13 feet, 5 inches in the long jump.
Conway also finished second in the 100 meters, with a time of 14.94 seconds, and was on the 4×200 and 4×400 meter relays that both finished second.
Abdo was also on both second-place relays, and got her own gold medal in the triple jump with a mark of 28 feet, 9 inches.
Jayden Chapin and Hadleigh Slayton joined Conway and Abdo on the 4×200 and 4×400 relays, as well as on the 4×100 meter relay the finished third.
In the boys’ meet, PCA added three more gold medals to its total for the day and finished with 37 points to place third in the team standings.
River Oaks won the team title with 79 points, Prairie View was second with 51, and Franklin Academy fourth with nine.
PCA thrower Corvin Finch won both of his events, the discus and the shot put. He had a throw of 74 feet, 1 inch in the discus and 33-10 in the shot.
Blake Barnard won the 1,600 meters, with a time of 7:23.29. He was also second in the 800 meters, with a time of 4:21.07.
Lakelan Pecanty had three second-place finishes, in the 100 and 200 meters and the long jump.
PCA’s varsity team will be in action Friday, when it hosts the District 4-3A boys and girls meets. Events will begin at 9 a.m. at Vicksburg High School.
