Softball Roundup: Lady Vikes collect 20th win; Missy Gators crush Columbus

Warren Central’s softball team finished the regular season with a milestone victory.
Keke McKay went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and also pitched a four-inning complete game as the Lady Vikes defeated Brookhaven 15-1 on Thursday.
Warren Central (20-5) reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2014. It has won 13 of its last 15 games, and will begin the MHSAA Class 6A playoffs on April 26 against Grenada or Lake Cormorant.
Madison Pant also had a big hitting night for the Lady Vikes on Thursday. She hit a double and a triple, drove in four runs and scored another.
Makayla Jackson was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored as well, as the Lady Vikes had six extra-base hits among their 11 total hits. Adalyn Anderson singled twice and scored two runs, while Sarah Cameron Fancher and Jenn Smith scored three runs apiece.
Pant’s two-run triple in the bottom of the first inning put Warren Central ahead 2-1, and then it scored seven runs in the second inning and six more in the third to win the game via run rule.
McKay pitched all four innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk. She had three strikeouts.
Vicksburg 20, Columbus 4
Harmony Harris went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored to lead Vicksburg High’s softball team to a 20-4 rout of Columbus on Thursday.
Lili Kistler doubled in two runs and scored three times, while Avery Van Norman and Trinity McGloster also had two RBIs apiece.
The Missy Gators (5-19, 3-5 MHSAA Region 2-6A) scored 10 runs in the third inning to blow the game wide open. They had 12 hits, but mostly took advantage of 15 walks issued by Columbus’ pitchers to pile up the runs.
Vicksburg finished third in Region 2-6A and will begin the Class 6A playoffs on April 26, with a best-of-three series against Saltillo.
