100 Years Ago: 1924

Mrs. John Hude and her three sons were in Vicksburg from Shreveport. • Tabitha Hoxie died. • Mr. and Mrs. P.L. Hennessey, along with their daughter and Myrtis Burnett, sailed for Europe aboard the U.S. Leviathan.

90 Years Ago: 1934

An announcement was made that a new theater, The Strand, would open in the Rose Building September 1. • Julius Podesta, game warden, stated that nearly three million small fish were placed in Eagle Lake.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Professor J.G.H. Bowman, a prominent educator, died. • Mrs. Daniel Green was in San Fransisco and visited with her husband, who was in the Navy. •Blanche Shilling died.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Services were held for Fannie Rasco. • Mrs. W.R. Ferris and her daughters were visiting relatives in Boston. • Clarence E. Hude died.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Judy Simono was named Miss Vicksburg. • Horace E. Buzhardt received his degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. • Alice Herrin left for Glacier National Park, where she would be employed for the summer. 

50 Years Ago: 1974

Melissa Pedron of Vicksburg won the first heat of a 200-yard freestyle swim for girls aged nine and 10 during the Vicksburg Invitational Swim Meet. • The old showboat melodrama “Gold in the Hills” was showing in the Showboat Theater. • Joseph Patrick Jackson celebrated his first birthday.

40 Years Ago: 1984

Navy Seaman Cynthia S. Harpole, daughter of Eleanor R. Yates of Port Gibson, completed recruit training at the Naval Training Center in Orlando, Fla. • Evelyn P. Edleston died. • Navy Seaman Apprentice Andrew Pickering Jr. completed his recruit training at the Naval Training Center. Great Lakes, Ill.

30 Years Ago: 1994

Brooke Ann Guest celebrated her first birthday.

20 Years Ago: 2004

Local Vicksburg graduates Kasey Franklin, Brian Lampkin and Bert Winschel were heading to the military.

10 Years Ago: 2014

The city board approved asbestos removal. • The Vicksburg Warren School District approved new start times for school. • Vacation Bible School swept through Vicksburg.
