YMCA flag football
Registration is now open for the Vicksburg YMCA’s youth flag football season.
The league is for players ages 5-12, and will be split into three age groups. The season runs from Sept. 16 to Oct. 24, with games played at Key City Park (formerly Sports Force Parks). The registration fee is $65 for YMCA members and $85 for non-members.
Coaches and referees are also needed. Games are played Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Key City Park (formerly Sports Force Parks). Referees are paid $15 to $20 per game with experience.

Red Carpet Bowl tickets
Tickets for the 62nd annual Red Carpet Bowl Classic football games on Aug. 30 are now on sale.
Vicksburg High will play Holmes County Central, and Warren Central will face Clinton. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m. at Vicksburg’s Memorial Stadium and Warren Central’s Viking Stadium, respectively.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at GoFan.co by searching for “Red Carpet Bowl Classic.”
Fans are also encouraged to review the Vicksburg Warren School District’s new clear bag policy before attending games this season.
Camp Tanglewood Scramble
The 2nd Annual Camp Tanglewood Scramble golf tournament is scheduled for Sept. 6 at Clear Creek Golf Course. The entry fee for the four-man scramble is $400 per team, and cash prizes of up to $1,500 for the winning team will be awarded.
The tournament benefits Unlimited Outdoors. The non-profit organization provides hunting trips and outdoors experiences for special needs children and adults.

Strike Out Child Abuse Softball Tournament
The sixth annual Strike Out Child Abuse benefit softball tournament is scheduled for Sept. 14 and 15 at Halls Ferry Park in Vicksburg.
The two-day youth tournament is for C-Class teams in the 8U through 18U age divisions. The entry fees are $75 for the 8U division, and $150 for all other divisions, plus a $45 pay at the plate fee for umpires. The entry fee for spectators is $10 at the gate.

Hinds baseball showcase
Hinds Community College will host its Fall Baseball Showcase on Sept. 22 at Joe G. Moss Field on the Raymond campus.
The showcase is open to players in grades 9-12 who are looking to display their talents in front of coaches from Hinds and other junior colleges and universities.
The showcase will start at noon and run until completion. Check-in/registration will begin at 11 a.m. The cost is $100 per player, in cash or check only. No payment will be accepted until the day of the showcase, but players are encouraged to download and fill out a registration form from sports.hindscc.edu to speed up the process.

Armadillo Classic
The Armadillo Classic golf tournament is scheduled for Sept. 20 at Clear Creek Golf Course. The two-man scramble has a $200 entry fee, and offers cash prizes of up to $1,000 for the winning team. Other prizes will also be awarded.
Registration will begin at 11 a.m. on the day of the tournament, and the tournament at 1 p.m.

Greenies Golf Tournament
The Fourth Annual Greenies Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 26 at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9. The entry fee for the four-person scramble is $70 per player, and mulligans can be purchased for $5 each. The entry fee is payable at registration and is cash only.
Prizes will be awarded for the first-, second- and third-place winners in each flight, as well as closest to the pin on all par 3s and closest to the center line on two other holes.

Over the River Run
Registration is now open for the 36th annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run and race walk across the Old Mississippi River Bridge. The race is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, at 8 a.m.
The entry fees are $30 for the 5-mile race and $15 for the 1-mile fun run. After Sept. 15 15th, the entry fees increase to $35 and $20. The race day fee for the 5-mile race will be $40.

Race packet pick-up will be Oct. 11th at the SCHF Auditorium at the corner of Crawford and Cherry Streets, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the morning of the race at the race site.
Sponsorships are also available, and volunteers are needed to help with the event. The Over the River Run is a fundraiser for the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation and helps with its building maintenance and numerous community programs.
WC Night of Champions
Warren Central will host the Viking Football Night of Champions on Friday, Oct. 25. The event is a celebration of 60 years of Warren Central football, and all former players, managers and coaches are invited to attend. There is a $20 registration fee that will benefit the football program.
The event will include a tailgate and social hour at 5 p.m.; pregame recognition and a group photo at 6:40; and recognition of the 1970s Little Dixie Conference and 1988 and 1994 MHSAA Class 5A state championship teams at halftime.
