Mose F. Stein died. • Carrie Mosby returned from Chicago. • Ruth Blanks returned from Allegheny Springs, Va. • “Why Men Leave Home” was playing at the Walnut Theater. • Catherine Sayers died. • Ernest Griffin was ill at The Infirmary.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hossley Sr. returned from a trip to Chicago. • John James Saunders died. • Mrs. A. Rose returned from New York. • Mr. and Mrs. Peter Canizaro were home after a European trip. 

80 Years Ago: 1944

Corp. Leonard Parrish was killed in action in France. • Dr. and Mrs. J.B. Askew went to Allison’s Wells for their vacation.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Herbert Andress was injured in a fall from a ladder. • William Holder died. • Services were held for Scott Taylor. • “Here Comes The Groom” was playing at the Alamo Theater.

60 Years Ago: 1964

The Vicksburg Rotary Club held its annual teacher’s night at the Vicksburg Auditorium. • C.R. Jones was named manager of the Sears store. • Shirley Newcomb died.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Mrs. Charlie Maples Ring, the widow of former Sheriff Joseph J. Ring, died. • George W. Ramphrey III received his master’s degree in social science from Mississippi College. • Mr. and Mrs. Donald S. Oakes announced the birth of their daughter, Jennifer Joy. 

40 Years Ago: 1984

Ella W. Locke died. • Homeowners filed a rezoning appeal with the city clerk to turn their houses into apartment complexes. • The Cottonpatchers Quilt Show was held at the public library. 

30 Years Ago: 1994

More than 1,200 counterfeit clothing items and purses were seized from six Warren County merchants and three transient vendors.

20 Years Ago: 2004

Dana Road Elementary and Vicksburg Intermediate School had classes disrupted for almost an hour due to a grease fire in the cafeteria. 

10 Years Ago: 2014

The Strand Theatre hosted The Little Tramp Film Festival. • Diaries of an Iowa soldier were donated to the Vicksburg National Military Park. • Porter’s Chapel UMC held a buffet and bake sale.
