Lady Vikes run winning streak to nine with two region victories

Warren Central’s volleyball team had the perfect start to a busy week.

The Lady Vikes remained undefeated in region play and did not drop a set in earning 3-0 victories over both Columbus and Callaway on back-to-back nights.

Melissa Herrle had 11 kills, three aces and 12 assists, while KK Kelly totaled five kills, 12 assists and 13 defensive digs in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-23) victory over Columbus on Monday.

Ka’ryn Henderson added six kills. Herrle had 12 digs and served three aces as well.

On Tuesday, the Lady Vikes beat Callaway 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-19), as Herrle served seven aces, to go along with seven kills and 11 assists.

Kelly had 11 assists and three kills, and Arrionna Jenkins had five kills and three solo blocks.

Warren Central (18-7, 6-0 MHSAA Region 2-6A) won its ninth consecutive match, and for the 13th time in the last 14.

The Lady Vikes will go on the road Thursday at 6 p.m. to play Neshoba Central (16-3, 5-0) in the first half of a home-and-home series that will likely determine the Region 2-6A champion.

The teams play again at Warren Central on Oct. 1.
