Voting is now open in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.

This week’s nominees are Vicksburg High volleyball player Makynzie Dunmore; football players Pierson Smith (St. Aloysius) and Hunter Simms (Porter’s Chapel); and Warren Central swimmer Avery Greer.

Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline.

Makynzie Dunmore, a senior volleyball player at Vicksburg High, totaled 14 blocks and 16 defensive digs in a 3-2 win over Columbus on Sept. 17 and a 3-2 loss to Callaway on Sept. 19. She has 78 blocks and 82 digs this season.

Pierson Smith, a junior running back with St. Aloysius’ football team, rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns in a 19-6 win over Clinton Christian on Sept. 20. The win ended St. Al’s school-record 23-game losing streak.

Hunter Simms, a senior offensive lineman and linebacker for Porter’s Chapel Academy’s football team, had eight tackles and one interception in a 22-20 win over Park Place on Sept. 20. As a blocker, he helped the Eagles rush for more than 300 yards.

Avery Greer, a freshman on Warren Central’s swim team, won four events and helped the Vikings win the combined team points title at their Rumble on the River meet at City Pool on Sept. 21. Greer won the 200 yard individual medley, 100 backstroke, and was on the winning 200 and 400 yard freestyle relay teams.

Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline. The winner will be announced Wednesday on vicksburgpost.com and then be featured in our Friday print edition.
