St. Aloysius watched a lead slip away and its softball season with it on Saturday.

Columbia Academy scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning, and tacked on one more in the seventh to surge past St. Al in an elimination game at the MAIS Class 5A South State tournament.

St. Al (9-15) lost 11-1 to Brookhaven Academy in its first game of the double-elimination tournament to fall into the losers’ bracket against Columbia.

The Lady Flashes scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead, but Columbia’s Taylor Berard and Macie Wilks hit back-to-back RBI singles in the sixth to put the Lady Cougars back in front.

Wilks finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.

St. Al left two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth, and another in the seventh.

Madison Spencer finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Lady Flashes, while Megan Theriot was 3-for-4 with a double and one run scored.

Kyleigh Cooper, Ruthie Britton and Madelyn Kavanaugh also had two hits apiece. Mallory Spencer hit an RBI double in the fourth inning.

Porter’s Chapel Academy’s softball season came to an end with two losses Saturday at the MAIS Class 3A South State tournament.

The Lady Eagles (6-17) did not have a hit in a 15-0 loss to Laurel Christian. Sophie Masterson drew a walk leading off the second inning to account for their only baserunner.

They did a bit better in an elimination game vs. Newton County Academy, but still took a 14-4 loss. Raedon Busby singled in two runs and scored another, and Natalie Cantin hit a two-run triple. Kinsley Luke also singled and scored a run.

Tallulah Academy rolled into the second half of the MAIS Class 2A South State tournament with a pair of resounding victories on Saturday.

Kaylyn Ray doubled twice, scored two runs and drove in five to lead Tallulah (12-9-1) to a 19-6 rout of Riverdale in its first game.

Halley Hopkins was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Elle Moberley singled, walked twice and scored three runs.

In the winners’ bracket game against Claiborne Academy, the Lady Trojans scored twice in the fourth inning and three more times in the fifth to break open a tight game and win 8-1.

Mary Katherine Marsh was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, and Emily Fortenberry went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.

Kathleen Ellerbee also was 2-for-2 with two singles, a walk and three runs scored. She had one RBI.

Tallulah Academy advanced to the semifinals of the double-elimination tournament and will face Briarfield Academy Monday at noon in Sterlington, Louisiana. The championship round begins at 4 p.m.
