St. Aloysius had a simple mission Wednesday — win its regular-season finale to get into the MAIS Division II girls soccer playoffs.

Mission accomplished.

Anna Kate McKnight scored twice in the first half, and four players scored one goal each in the second as the Lady Flashes routed Copiah Academy 6-1 to secure their spot in the postseason.

The Lady Flashes only led 2-1 at halftime, then broke it open in the second. Audrey Grace Newman, Mary Ruth Montgomery, Frances Ferrell and Megan Theriot all scored. The latter two came on shots from outside the 18-yard line.

Taryn Lusby and Reese Lyons had assists.

St. Al lost to Park Place 1-0 on Monday to create its must-win scenario against Copiah. The victory put St. Al and Park Place into a tie for second place in Division II Central, with identical 3-3 records, and the Lady Flashes owned the tiebreaker.

St. Al will go on the road to face Brookhaven Academy in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m.

Brookhaven beat St. Al 2-0 when the teams played in Vicksburg in late August.
