Samantha Edwards’ cross country winning streak continued Saturday, and this time all of her teammates got to join in the fun.
Edwards clocked a time of 19 minutes, 14 seconds to win the PPCA Invitational in Pearl, and three other St. Aloysius runners finished in the top seven as the Lady Flashes claimed the team title.
Edwards won her fourth consecutive 5K race. She also won the the French Camp Invitational on Sept. 7, the Forerunners Light It Up Meet on Sept. 14, and the Warren Central Valhalla Invitation on Sept. 21.
Julia Tuminello was two minutes behind Edwards, with a time of 21:14, to give the Lady Flashes at 1-2 finish at Park Place Christian Academy’s meet on Saturday.
Caroline Ponder placed sixth, in 25:43, Luella Lambiotte was seventh in 26:14, and Maria Torres 12th in 27:50. Lambiotte beat Brandon’s Ella Stogner by five seconds to give the Lady Flashes the team championship with 27 points.
Brandon had 29 points and finished second in the standings, despite having seven of the top 11 runners. Only the top five from each team are scored, with their score aligned to their finishing position. Although Torres finished 12th, she was given 11 points since Brandon had used up all of its scoring slots.
