Tallulah Academy bows out in Class 2A softball state tournament

Tallulah Academy survived one elimination game at the MAIS Class 2A softball state tournament on Monday, but could not turn two.
The Lady Trojans beat Delta Academy 9-5 in their first game of the day, then were eliminated with a 13-5 loss to Claiborne Academy a couple hours later.
Tallulah Academy finished its season with a 15-13-1 record, and went 2-2 in the state tournament. On Saturday it beat Marvell Academy 14-4 and lost 4-0 to Calhoun Academy.
In the first game Monday against Delta Academy, Halley Hopkins went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and five RBIs. Mary Katherine Marsh also doubled and drove in three runs.
Hopkins’ two-run single and Marsh’s two-run double in the first inning helped Tallulah jump to a 4-1 lead, then Hopkins hit another RBI double in the second.
Delta scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to get to within 6-5, and then Hopkins tripled in two runs and scored on Marsh’s single in the sixth to give Tallulah some more breathing room.
In their second game, the Lady Trojans had the script flipped on them. Claiborne Academy scored four runs in the top of the first, added three more in the second, and then four in the fourth to take an 11-4 lead before winning 13-5.
Claire Hays was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs for Claiborne.
Kaylyn Ray, Rachel Florice and Hallie Grace Malone each had two hits and an RBI for Tallulah, and Emery Hill was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Malone hit two doubles and Ray had one.
