Scott is a Vicksburg native who spent his childhood and early adult years in Utica. After graduating as valedictorian from Hinds County Agricultural High School, he furthered his education at Hinds Community College, Ashford University and Walden University. But, Scott said his most important education to be the teaching he received during Sunday school, worship services and Bible studies, where the Word of God was spoken and taught.

Considering himself to truly be a man selected by God to serve, Scott said he strives daily to do the will of God.

Scott is married to Andrea O’Neil Scottt and is the father of four daughters and one son. He is the son of the late Elder James Stokes Sr. and Linda Scott, of Utica.

Scott has been employed at Nissan North America in Canton for 21 years.

Scott said his philosophy of life comes from Galatians 2:20: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
