T.H. Duncan won first prize at the state fair with his white leghorns. • Mrs. O.E. Calhoun entertained the Thursday afternoon Whist Club.

The Hungerford Products Co. plant opened in Vicksburg to make Dr. Pepper and other soft drinks. • Mr. and Mrs. Byron Levy, of Port Gibson, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1944

St. Aloysius defeated Culkin 12-0. • Carr Central defeated Yazoo City 34-12. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1954

Frank Jordan was the guest speaker at the meeting of the Vicksburg Lions Club. • Mr. and Mrs. Frank Everett were on a trip through the Smoky Mountains. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1964

The Warren County United Fund went past $46,000 toward a goal of $130,871. • Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Harvey announced the birth of a son, Thomas. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1974

Dave Bastian and a party of nine traveled down the Mississippi River by canoe to Natchez. • Warren Central maintained its No. 1 ranking by defeating Crystal Springs 27-18. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1984

Jerry Scout and Gordon Johnson accepted a plaque for the Vicksburg Bass Club in honor of its participation in the Have-A-Heart Bass Classic.

30 YEARS AGO: 1994

Trustmark took over the offices of First National Bank in Vicksburg. • Collections suggested the local casino market was maturing. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2004

Vicksburg Police Department patrol cars got a new look. • The City of Vicksburg was taking bids for work to be done on improvements to the airport. 

10 YEARS AGO: 2014

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation celebrated its 20-year anniversary. • A fire safety program in Vicksburg allowed children to meet firefighters.
