Vicksburg’s Ward 1 Alderman Thomas “T.J.” Mayfield presented the latest round of AMAZE awards Monday during the regular meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

Mayfield began the AMAZE Community Service Award in August. The award, which stands for Alderman Mayfield Award for Zeal and Excellence and is named after his late father – former Ward 1 Alderman Michael Mayfield, is given monthly to an individual or individuals who display dedication and commitment to the betterment of the City of Vicksburg.

“We want to promote and spread positivity,” Mayfield said during Monday’s meeting, prior to presenting the awards. “Not just that, but to show people that great things are going on here in Vicksburg and, for those people that are doing the great things, encourage them to continue to do it.”

This month’s recipients were Chareck Antwan Cable II, Taquelia Pendleton and Amy Searle.

Cable received the award for assisting with this year’s “Stop the Violence” rally. Pendleton was recognized for her work to organize a walk to bring awareness to domestic violence, which was held Friday in Vicksburg. Searle received the award for her work with multiple organizations and causes, including “Stop the Violence,” domestic violence awareness and efforts to combat drug additions. Mayfield said Searle has also been instrumental in local efforts to provide storm relief for victims of Hurricane Helene, specifically those in North Carolina.
