Second suspect arrested in connection with Speed Street shooting

A second Vicksburg man is in custody in connection with the Oct. 1, shooting on Speed Street that injured one person.

Stuart Thomas, 24, was taken into custody at the Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) Friday, VPD said in a statement.

Thomas was sought on a warrant for tampering with physical evidence related to the shooting incident that occurred near the intersection of Speed and Drummond streets. The incident was the second shooting in three days in the 1100 block of Speed Street and both incidents have been suspected to have been targeting a home at 1107 Speed Street.

Another suspect, 29-year-old Nicholas Clay, was taken into custody Oct. 3, in relation to the shooting. Both suspects turned themselves in to the VPD.

Clay was charged with aggravated assault and bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury on a $50,000 bond by Vicksburg Municipal Court Judge Penny Lawson.

Thomas appeared before Lawson Friday, where he received a $30,000 bond and was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury.
