Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame announces its Class of 2025

Eight of Mississippi’s college sports icons have earned one of the state’s highest athletic honors.
College football stars Dexter McCluster and Derrick Nix, coaches Scott Berry and Steve Rives, and basketball player and coach Mo Williams are among the eight legends selected as the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 on Tuesday.
High school football coach Mike Justice, golf pro Robbie Webb, and NFL official Brad Freeman round out the class. They will be be formally inducted during the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Induction Weekend on Aug. 1-2, 2025.
• McCluster was an All-Southeastern Conference and All-America running back at Ole Miss, who later went on to an eight-year career in the NFL.
• Nix was a running back at Southern Miss. He has also been a college coach for 21 years, with most of that time spent at Southern Miss and Ole Miss. He is currently Auburn’s offensive coordinator.
• Berry became Southern Miss’ all-time winningest baseball coach during a tenure that lasted 23 seasons. He retired in 2023 after leading the Golden Eagles to nine NCAA Tournament appearances in 14 seasons as head coach.
• Rives was an accomplished college and high school basketball coach who won more than 700 games at Delta State and Jackson Prep.
• Freeman has been an NFL official since 2001. Before that, he was a standout defensive back at Mississippi State and in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings from 1975-87.
• Justice is a Mississippi high school coach legend who had a remarkable record of 297-98 and won four state championships in 29 seasons at Gulfport, Madison Central, Louisville, Calhoun City and Caledonia.
• Williams is a Murrah High School graduate who went on to play at Alabama, and then for 13 seasons in the NBA. He was part of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ NBA championship team in 2016. Williams is currently the men’s basketball head coach at Jackson State.
• Webb has been a golf professional at Canton Country Club and Deerfield Golf Club in Canton. He is credited with mentoring numerous junior golfers who went on to great success.
