When it comes to The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest, it just means Moore.
Porter’s Chapel Academy football player Auston Moore received 819 of the 2,640 votes cast in an online poll of The Post’s readers to win this week’s award in a close four-way competition.
Moore edged St. Aloysius junior high football player Patrick Southerland by just 79 votes for the honor.
Southerland finished second, with 740 votes. Warren Central volleyball player Ka’ryn Henderson was third, with 606 votes, and Vicksburg High football player DeCorey Knight Jr. came in fourth with 506 votes.
Moore, a junior running back, rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries in a 74-52 loss to Columbus Christian on Oct. 11.
Moore has rushed for nearly 500 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.
Porter’s Chapel (5-4) will go on the road this Friday to play Wilkinson County Christian Academy. It will be back at home next week to face Prairie View for the MAIS District 3-2A championship.
Congratulations to Auston and the other nominees, and thank you to our readers for voting.
